According to the state law, the total combined enrollment of exception students should not exceed 25% of the total enrollment count. Use the December 1st EIS enrollment count from the previous school year to calculate the allowable # of exception students. For those schools who are adding a grade for the 2016-2017 school year, you may add to your exception count by completing the following formula:
Total # of allowable exception students (based on the December 1st pull)/
Total number of grades for the 2015-2016 school year=
Average # of allowable exception students per grade
The average # of allowable exception students per grade may be added to the allowable # of exception students for each grade that will added for the 2016-2017 school year.
Example: School A was a k-1 school during 2015-2016. They were allotted 27 exceptions from the December 1 pull, but they will be adding 1 grade this year. Therefore, their formula would look like this:
27/2= 13.5
13.5+27=40.5
Total exceptions for 2016-2017 is 41
